The Roadshow Revival would like to introduce you to Angela Rivera our featured artist at this year’s Festival. She’s attended our Event since 2010 and once again,  done a fantastic job illustrating her love for Johnny CASH and the Roadshow Revival.

Angela: I’m a kustom-lowbrow art & craft nerd based in Huntington Beach, California.

As an artist, I’m very versatile with my mediums and hands-on with my creations, but my main weapons of choice is my pencil and my COMPUTER. I love to create detailed illustrations and designs that are genuine and true to my off-beat, quirky, slightly darker aesthetic.

With an EDUCATED background in Fine Arts, Photography and Graphic Design, my skills range from digital to traditional illustration, PRINT DESIGN and apparel design, I’m aspiring to “Do My Own Thing”…start my own creative home decor/home accessories biz 😉

I’m inspired by the Surf/Vintage Tiki Culture, Tattoo art and Enthusiast, Music(Rockabilly, Punk, Rock, Indie, Surf…Etc..), Low Brow and Kustom/Hot Rod Kulture.

I love to work with like-minded people, and learn new traits to benefit my abilities. I am currently available for commissioned artwork, so feel FREE TOtake a gander at what I can do or get in touch:

Remembering Johnny Cash on His Birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHNNY_page_001

From his final resting place in Tennessee, to right here in Ventura, fans of the late Johnny Cash will celebrate his 82nd birthday with live music and festivities. Bands like Cash’d Out, One More Round, the Walking Phoenixes, and the Mighty Cash Cats will pay homage to the “Man in Black” with tribute songs and Cash inspired music. Notable events include the Johnny Cash 82nd Birthday Bash in New York, the Johnny Cash Birthday Celebration in Nashville, the Cash Bash in Indianapolis, the Johnny Cash Birthday Bash at the Boarderline in Thousand Oaks and the Star Lounge in Ventura, Ca.

“Every year since his passing in 2003, my Dad’s legacy becomes more ingrained in our collective conscious. The Johnny Cash Museum in Tennessee, the movies, the biographies, the postage stamp, the tribute acts, they’re all memories of my Dad. There’s even a new album of unreleased music coming out in March”, said daughter, Cindy Cash. For the last 4 years, Cindy has helped produce the Roadshow Revival—A Tribute to the Music of Johnny Cash held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on Father’s Day weekend. The Event features Outlaw Country, Rockabilly and Johnny Cash tribute acts. Cindy books bands and curates a Memorabilia Gallery in hopes that “people will remember my Dad as a man who came from humble beginnings and stayed that way. He treated people with respect and loved his family deeply. And, that he and my Mother, Vivian Liberto, lived and worked here in Ventura. (Johnny moved his wife, children, and parents to Casitas Springs in 1961 and had an office on Main Street. First wife, Vivian Liberto was an active member of the Ventura community until her passing in 2005).”

Johnny Cash’s Career spanned almost five decades. He was a pioneer of Rockabilly and Rock and Roll music. He wrote over a thousand songs and released dozens of albums. He won 19 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is an American music icon; a prolific artist whose fan base spans five generations. He was born on February 26, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas.

The Johnny Cash Phenomenon and a “New” Album

th[5]

Last month, fans of the late Johnny Cash celebrated what would have been his 82 birthday. Tribute bands like Cash’d Out, One More Round, the Mighty Cash Cats, and the Walking Phoenixes played Cash bashes all over the country. On March 25, they’ll have another reason to celebrate. The Cash estate is releasing “Out Among the Stars”, an album he recorded in the early 1980’s that was never released.

The Cash estate is home to an extensive collection of Cash family archives. Son, John Carter Cash didn’t find the material until late last year. Selections from the album are taken from 1981 and ’84 sessions; a time when country music was entering its ‘Urban Cowboy’ phase. Pop country was what people wanted to hear and Cash was not that. Record company executives were not impressed with the recordings, so the public never got to hear them.

Cash’s popularity waned for years until he teamed up with record producer Rick Rubin and recorded and released American Recordings in 1997. A mix of Cash acoustic originals and cover songs, the new album introduced CASH to a new and younger audience. Rubin’s record label released a total of six Cash albums—winning multiple Grammy Awards and gold and platinum record distinctions. Two of the records were released after Cash’s passing.

Johnny Cash was always uniquely himself. He never altered his sound to suit pop culture’s ever changing taste. And now, the world has again come to appreciate his music— delving past the Rick Rubin era—deeper into the Cash discography. “Every year since his passing in 2003, my Dad’s legacy becomes more ingrained in our collective conscious. The Johnny Cash Museum in Tennessee, the movies, the biographies, the postage stamp, the bike trail at Folsom, the tribute acts, they’re all memories of my Dad.” said daughter, Cindy Cash. For the last 4 years, the local Ventura resident has helped produce the Roadshow Revival—A Tribute to the Music of Johnny Cash, one of the biggest tribute festivals on the West Coast. Held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on Father’s Day weekend, the Event features Outlaw Country and Rockabilly music, Johnny Cash tribute acts, a Johnny Cash Memorabilia Gallery, car and bike show, pin up pageant, and vendors selling Cash related merchandise. Cash was a resident of Ventura County for much of the 60’s (he and his family lived just north of Ventura in Casitas Springs), so it’s only fitting that a Festival for the “Man in Black” take place in the town he lived in.

The legacy of Johnny Cash continues, stronger than ever, with a new album, and right here in Ventura County.
